Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday urged Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to travel only on the dates mentioned in their registration, warning that no devotee will be permitted to undertake the pilgrimage before their allotted date.
In an advisory, the administration said the maximum number of pilgrims allowed on the Yatra routes has been fixed in accordance with directions from the Indian Supreme Court, making compliance with the daily limit mandatory for the safety of pilgrims and the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
Authorities said advance registration was opened well before the start of the Yatra through designated bank branches across India and online platforms, with most pilgrims already completing the process.
As a result, Tatkal (on-the-spot) registration slots are extremely limited.
The administration urged devotees to travel to Jammu and Kashmir only after obtaining advance registration, noting that it would not be possible to accommodate thousands of unregistered pilgrims under the limited Tatkal registration facility.
"Such pilgrims are requested to wait for their turn and travel only on the date assigned by the administration", the advisory said.
Officials also noted that several registered pilgrims have been arriving in Jammu and Kashmir before their scheduled travel date.
"No pilgrim will be permitted to travel before their registered date. Please travel only on your registered date", the advisory said, adding that unregistered pilgrims should also wait for their turn.
The administration assured devotees that every pilgrim would get an opportunity to undertake the Yatra, but only in accordance with the prescribed procedure and the available daily capacity.
Authorities appealed to pilgrims to maintain order and cooperate with officials to ensure the safety of all devotees.
The 57-day Amarnath Yatra will begin on 3 July and conclude on 28 August. Pilgrims can undertake the journey via the traditional 48-kilometre Nunwan-Pahalgam route in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district or the shorter 14-kilometre Baltal route in Jammu and Kashmir's Ganderbal district.
